While the universe is teeming with possibilities, the question is why it still seems so empty to us?
The universe features 2 trillion galaxies, billions of stars and maybe an infinite number of planets.
Science informs us:
“There has to be life somewhere in the universe.”
But reality goes on to say:
Quietness.
Nothingness.
Evenness.
And some nights…
That quietness is with you inside your own self as well.
You could be a thousand people but still feel physically alone.
There are people in every corner but none of them seem to come from the right place and touch you.
What if the Fermi Paradox were not only a question about the universe?
Maybe it was the most profound question about the inner space of our mind:
“If there is so much, then why do I feel so little?”
1. The universe is huge, but we possess an empty space within
The question in the Fermi paradox, the most important one, is straightforward:
“If the universe is so immense, where are we all? Where are the aliens?”
Moreover, the same question is raised by life every single day:
“If surrounded by so many people, why is the feeling of being alone still with me?”
You speak, but no one understands what you say.
You make an effort, but you are not recognized.
You put out effort, but you don’t get anything in return.
The universe is not reacting…
At the beginning it is silence out there and later it is silence within the human heart.
2. Maybe consciousness is so improbable that you are already an exception
According to some theories, consciousness is amazingly rare in the universe of things and so rare that it may happen that the two conscious beings never meet each other.
Maybe this is the reason why relationships are so hard.
Maybe that is why the feeling that no one really understands me is so common for everyone.
This world is dominated by the herd mentality…
And the fact that those people think deeply, feel intensely, and see beyond is already an anomaly
Simply stated:
Maybe the silence is not by chance maybe it is evidence that you are rare.
3. You search for meaning… But existence doesn’t respond
One of the most striking things about Fermi Paradox is this:
The universe is completely silent.
There is no communication, no indication, no trace.
People are also in the same situation:
You search for meaning.
You take actions.
You pray, intend, plan, and hope…
But life remains indifferent.
If no one answers, you think:
“I must be doing something wrong.”
However, the truth is different.
Sometimes the silence is not negating it is gearing up.
4. Maybe civilizations destroy themselves… Just like people do
One of the solutions to the Fermi Paradox is that civilizations mature, increase… But eventually implode with the conflicts within them.
Humans do exactly the same:
You dream, and then you become afraid.
You are close to success, and then you sabotage.
You love, and then you run.
You try, and then you give up.
Most of the time that the danger is not outside it is the shadow that we have inside.
5. Silence might actually be an invitation
Certain philosophers argue that the silence of the universe is a message:
“Listen.”
When the mind is noisy, one is not able to hear anything.
However, as soon as you calm your mind…
You come to the realization that the universe had been speaking to you all along.
Loneliness and relationships work in the same way.
Quietness is not an empty place it is a call.
The call of coming back to yourself.
Your inner self.
Your core being.
Finally: The universe is not silent. We just haven’t learned how to hear it.
The most profound interpretation of the Fermi Paradox might be this:
We don’t feel alone because the universe is vast.
We feel alone because our own inner world is vast and still untouched.
Perhaps, we are not alone at all.
Perhaps, we are just learning to tune in.
Perhaps, the silence that you feel right now is actually the very beginning of something that is calling your name.
